Today’s journaling / reflection prompt: What do you remember about childhood? The sights, the sounds, the smells. What do you miss? What did you fear or love? What do you see more clearly now about yourself at that age? What do you need your younger self to know or hear? And what can you learn from the wisdom of your youth?
A mid-week surprise - something a little different this week - play the video above to listen to an essay that I wrote in 2014 about childhood. It’s about 10 minutes with gentle tunes and visuals, narrated by yours truly.
Enjoy~

Margin Notes
Hello dear friend. Yes! It finally snowed in London, validating all my morning complaints of “IT’S SO COOLLDD” yet feeling weak after seeing people wear shorts outside on the streets!
Snow is the same everywhere, whichever cold place you encounter it - the same catch-all magic of seeing fluffy white swirls in the wind. A kind of slowness that’s also timeless. I was completely mesmerized all morning - until the clouds parted in the early afternoon, the sun emerged. The streets turned to muddy water and life resumed its normal pace.
In those hours, I thought of this essay I wrote many years ago, in another place where I encountered snow, often and always. It was the most painful thing I had written that whole year of taking writing classes - and even now, whenever I think to work on it - because there’s so much more to say, so many ways to make it better - I can’t bear it. Not a time goes by that I don’t cry by the end, even after all these quick years of missing and forgetting her.
It’s a privilege to share this with you and in another format. I hope you’ll let me know what you think, and if you want more essays read aloud. I miss so many voices.
Until next time, be well, sending you big hugs, Kerri
